Marie Rataj, MSN, APRN, ANP
Nurse Practitioner
Marie has been in nursing since 1981 when she graduated from Orangeburg Calhoun Region Hospital School of Nursing with a Diploma in Nursing. It was one of the last Diploma Programs in the country. Since graduation she has worked as a bedside nurse on medical floors, Cardiac Care and Intensive Care which is her passion. She has also worked as a Case Manager helping patients with Discharge Planning. While working full-time and raising a family, she went back to school to get her Bachelor’s and Masters in Adult Health Nursing. She received her Masters in 2001. She believes in caring for the whole patient, not just the disease entity they are suffering from.
Marie came to South Carolina Sleep Medicine in 2005. She is a local expert in sleep medicine. Not only does she work in sleep medicine she is also a patient and has been on CPAP for years. When new masks come out she tries them out so she can give an opinion to her patients when they ask.
Marie enjoys reading, singing, crocheting and shopping. She sang for many years in the LowCountry Singing Christmas Tree until it was retired. She loves to crochet baby blankets for family and friends having babies. Marie lives in Summerville with her husband and has 2 adult sons both of whom are in the Army. She has one grandson that she enjoys spending time with. She grew up in Holly Hill, SC and enjoys seeing patients from her hometown. She also has many family members in the area as her parents were born and raised in Summerville.
